Compress a photo to between 20 KB and 50 KB

Many forms set a minimum as well as a maximum. Choose your photo and download a file above 20 KB and below 50 KB, counted the strict way so it passes on every portal.

Size limit

We keep the file just under the limit, counting 1 KB as 1,000 bytes, so it passes on every portal.

More options: exact pixel size, DPI

We crop from the centre to match this shape, so faces never get stretched.

It changes the label inside the file, not the pixels.

Your result appears here

We check the size against your limit before you download. Nothing is uploaded.

Getting it right

  • Enter the two numbers exactly as your form states them. If it says “between 10 KB and 50 KB”, enter 10 and 50.
  • Already under 20 KB? We raise the quality first, and if that isn't enough we add harmless padding inside the file. The photo looks exactly the same.
  • If the form also gives a pixel size, such as 350 × 450, enter it under More options.
  • A minimum is there to stop blurry, over-compressed photos. A file just over 20 KB passes, but a little higher is safer.

Exams that ask for this

These pages have the official size and rules already set:

How it works

  1. Choose your photo. A JPG, PNG or WebP from your phone or computer.
  2. Type the limit from your form. If it says “between 20 KB and 50 KB”, enter 20 and 50.
  3. Download. You get a JPG that fits, usually within a second or two.

Your photo never leaves your device

The compression runs inside your browser. Your photo is not uploaded to any server, so nobody else can see it. That matters for ID photos and signatures. See how to check it yourself.

Tips for application forms

  • Copy the numbers exactly as the form states them. Forms reject a file that is even 1 KB over the limit.
  • If the form gives a pixel size, such as 350 × 450, open More options and enter it.
  • If the form mentions 300 DPI, enter 300 in the DPI box. It changes a label inside the file, not the photo.
  • For a very small limit, crop the photo close to the face or signature first. Less background leaves more detail for what matters.

Questions

Will my photo lose quality?

Some, as with any compression. We test several combinations of pixel size and quality and keep the one that looks best while staying under your limit.

Why is the file a little under my limit?

We aim for 95–100% of the limit, so the file is never over it. A form will accept 48 KB when the limit is 50 KB.

My form needs at least 20 KB. Can you make a file bigger?

Yes. Enter the minimum in the first box. If the photo is too small, we raise the quality first. If it is still under, we add harmless padding inside the file. The photo looks exactly the same.

What does the exact pixel size option do?

It resizes the photo to those pixels. If the shape is different, we crop from the centre so nothing gets stretched.

Which files can I use?

JPG, PNG and WebP. The result is always a JPG, which every form accepts.

Is it free?

Yes. There is no sign-up and no watermark.
